I’ve been so heavily involved with Worldisround that you might be surprised to hear that I wasn’t already the owner. In truth I started out as ‘the programmer’, and as Worldisround grew over the years I took on more and more responsibilities. And now David has transferred ownership of the company over to me.
Not much has changed with Worldisround over the last two years. David hasn’t had the resources to pay attention to the site. And since I didn’t actually own any of the work that I put into Worldisround, my attention has been elsewhere: I have been working as a Web consultant and started my own company (Animist , personal productivity solutions). I have continued to maintain Worldisround and provide customer support (which has been an unexpected pleasure). We almost closed it down and considered selling it, but the buyers didn’t see the potential in Worldisround that I see. So here’s my chance to prove it.
Naturally I’m really excited by this change. Now that Worldisround is ‘mine’, I’ve got bigger plans for the site. You’ve probably already noticed that I’ve started tweaking the site. A new logo and site redesign are in the works. Features in beta will be released soon, and new features are already on the way. As always, feedback and suggestions are welcome!

WIR was the best travel photo-posting site I had encountered and was therefore somewhat put out that you were going off-line. What good news that the site has been re-instated. Keep up the good work. I have recently moved to Peru and hope to post a number of pics. on the site in the near future.

So many of us are relieved to hear the great news that Worldisround has been saved, and that it remains in your good hands! For a while I felt something akin to my drivers' license had been taken away, I’ve depended upon you for so much pleasure in presenting some of our travels, and in enjoying the travels of so many others.
You have been really helpful in answering my questions and problems so quickly. As somebody else has said, you’ve become a real friend. So congratulations to you – and to all of us, as well. We’re looking forward to continuing what has become a very important relationship.

I’m rooting for you Michael. When David was at the helm he was always personally encouraging. As your programming helped to develop the site you have continued to add personal attention to all inquiries. I feel as if I know both David and you. It may be difficult to run this all by yourself, but I trust that when you add staff you will find cohorts as interested as you are.

I love posting my travel pictures on Worldisround and can see the amount of traffic that has taken place on my albums. Keep things just the way they are, do not change things to allow hotlinks, it is much better if people have to access the site to see pictures rather than see a direct link on some blog or forum.

When I thought this site was closing, I couldn’t find any photo sharing sites so specifically aimed at travel. There is such a wealth of information and pictures on here from all over the world and it would have been a great shame to lose it. I also like the concept of travel articles and being able to explore the world.

Well done! This is one of the first sites I started using to post photos and I still get feedback from the old ones, though I rarely post now. I’ll have to start again, though travel is not as prominent on my agenda currently. But – I still take photos where I am now, which is one of the more beautiful and varied parts of the world (near Byron Bay, Australia). Maybe there is still a space for that on Worldisround. Anyway, I’ll get out to Indonesia and Africa again before too long.
I really like the way things are constructed as articles rather than just photos.
