This user account option controls whether
your personal pages will be listed in search engines or not.
This is what it looks like in the
Change Account Options page:
This option is usually left enabled.
Disabling it provides an additional level
of privacy, almost as if all of your personal
articles were hidden articles (except that they
still appear on your homepage).

A personal article is an article that is not a travel article.

A public article is an article that is not hidden and not invitation-only.
A private article is an article that is
hidden and/or
invitation-only.
Personal articles may be public or private.
Travel articles are always public.
- Exactly What is Included/Excluded

When the Index option is enabled, the following items are included in search engines:
- All of your travel articles.
- All of your public (non-hidden, non-invitation-only) personal articles.
- Your user homepage (but only if you have published a public article).
- You are included in the Worldisround 'author search'.
When the Index option is disabled, the following items are excluded from search engines:
- All of your personal (i.e. non-travel) article and photo pages.
- Your homepage.
- You are also excluded from the Worldisround 'author search'.
- Travel Articles are Always Indexed

Travel articles are meant for the world to see, therefore they are always public and
always included in search engines. If you don't want your article to be seen by the entire world,
then it is a personal article and
should be categorized as such.
- Hidden and Invitation-Only Articles are Never Indexed

Never have been, never will be. The Index option only
really effects your public, personal articles and whether your homepage
can be found via a search.

Unlike the
hidden and
invitation-only options which
are applied per-article, this is an account option that effects all personal articles.
If you want some of your personal articles
to be public and some of them private then you should enable this option and set
the individual articles that you want to be private to be
hidden or invitation-only.
- How to Share Your Pages

When the Index option is disabled there is no way for someone to find you by
searching Google or searching Worldisround. You will need to send them a URL or
use the
E-mail this page feature to share your stuff with someone else.
